A Call to Walk Together
I was literally jumping on a net trampoline high in the forest when my phone rang. It was a call about an opportunity to join STIR—an opportunity to be involved in something impactful, something growing. Despite the chaos around me, I listened closely: What is STIR? Am I being called to this?
Years ago, I felt called to move from the corporate world to the nonprofit sector, which in turn allowed me to answer the call to become a foster parent. Now, as a full-time mom and a life that already felt full, was STIR the right call for me?
Through research and conversations, it became clear—my experience and heart were aligned with STIR’s mission. I’ve always sought to expand my connection to my community, from volunteering in downtown Toronto to fostering children and supporting the elderly. I’ve met extraordinary people, many facing addiction and immense struggles. Their stories taught me that challenges feel insurmountable when we’re alone.
That’s what makes STIR so powerful. We are a community of volunteers walking alongside those in recovery. Vulnerability and honesty take courage, but together, we heal.
As you read this Spring edition of our STIR newsletter, I invite you to reflect: Are you also being called to support this mission? Whether through prayer, a donation, or a referral, every act of kindness helps sustain our community.
From all of us at STIR, thank you for walking this journey with us.
